Don't let your factory licence lapse. Here's when to renew, what documents you need, and common pitfalls.
A valid factory licence is a non-negotiable requirement for any manufacturing establishment. Operating without one — or with an expired licence — can result in closure orders, penalties, and criminal prosecution.
Renewal timeline
Factory licences are typically valid for one year and must be renewed before 31st December for the following calendar year. Apply at least 60 days before expiry to allow processing time.
Documents for renewal
You'll need: the current licence, a completed Form 2 application, stability certificate (if structural changes were made), fire NOC, pollution consent, and payment of the prescribed fee based on your workforce size.
Common pitfalls
The most common reasons for delayed renewals are: incomplete Form 2, expired fire NOC or stability certificates, outstanding compliance notices from previous inspections, and incorrect fee calculation.
Start the renewal process at least 90 days before expiry. Third-party certificates like fire NOC and stability reports can take weeks to obtain.
